hasonlybeenobtainedthankstotwoorganizationswhogaveus
theirsupportfromthestart.

     Thefirstoneis'üLaPlaceÇ';astoreinMontreal,andthe
secondistheüCompucentreÇretailnetworkacrossallofCanada.We
thankthemforalltheydid.

     Hereisabriefreviewofthismonth'scontents.First,four
impressivesimagesbyàAlainPlouffeÇ,aregularcontributor.In
fact,thelion'sshareoftheworkwasdonebyAlainandRaymond.

     àRaymondM.Deschênesä,ÇauthoroftheüNews.PrgÇwhichmanages
ournewsletter,couldn'thelpmodifyinghisprogramtoaddmore
refinements.Theydeprivedhimofmanyhoursofsleepbutare
worthallthetroublehegavehimself.Thesemodifications(most
ofthemsubtle)makethisnewslettereveneasiertouse.Heis
alsosubmittinganewdeskaccessorycalled'àScreenProtectäÇ'.

     AsforAlain,herananinterviewwiththefoundingmembers
ofayoungMontrealcompanycalled'üSoundWaveÇ',whichprograms
üMIDIÇsoftwarefortheST.Thisinterviewisonlyavailablein
englishforlackofdiskspace.Healsorunsareviewof
üActivisionÇ'süMusicStudioÇ.ü

     àSergeVaillancourtÇisbackagainwiththesecondissueof
hisüPascalÇtutorial,andapplieshisprogrammingtechniquestoa
labelmakerutilityprogram.Hehadtowaitforthissecondissue
tofindenoughroomtosubmitit.

     SysOpàNormandBrassardÇexitsthebeatenpathandproposesa
reviewoftheüZOOMRACKSÇprogrambyüQuickviewÇ.

     Wealsohadsomeexternalcontributorsforthisissue.First
isourfriendüAllanPollockÇ,à'Nexus'Çwhoreviewsthe'üFLASHÇ'
terminalprogrammarketedbyüAnticÇandwrittenbytwobrilliant
youngprogrammers:üJoeChiazzeseÇfromMontreal,andüAllanPageÇof
Toronto.AllanPollockwasoneofthebeta-testersfor'FLASH'
beforeitsintroductiononthemarketandthus,heknowsthe
programverywell.ThesecondcontributionisfromüGrahamWolfeÇ,
presidentofthe'üMÇontrealüAÇtariüSTÇ'(MAST)usergroup,andhis
offeringisa'üWaitProgramÇ'writtenin68000machinelanguage.

     OnepersonmissinginthisissueisüAlainBirtzÇ.Alain
decidedtoleaveusafterthefirstissue.Itwillbeagreatloss
andhardtoreplace.AlainhadboughthisSTaroundthesametime
asIdidlastAugustandhadformedwithmethenucleusofwhat
wastobecomeüFASTERÇ.Iwouldliketousethisoccasiontowish
himgoodluckinhisnewprojects.Heisinfactworkingwith
RaymondM.DeschênesonanewSTutilityprogramthatwillsurely
becomeacommercialsuccess.

     Thismonth'snewsletter,ithastobementionned,comesto
youinaspecialformat.Infact,wehadsomuchmaterial,and
thatexcludestwoarticlesIhadplannedonwriting,thatwehad
touseautilityallowingustouse400K!Thisformatmightmake
duplicatingmoredifficultforusersinexperiencedwiththiskind
offormat,butpleasebelievethatthiswasnotourintention.

     Thefutureissuesappearpromising!Ideasandcontributors
arebecomingmoreandmorenumerous.Mostly,don'tforgetto
submityourideasandprojects;theywillbestudiedwithgreat
care.What'smore,wemaintainthehopeofseingthisnewsletter
bemarketedinüUnitedStatesÇandüEnglandÇsoon.Wewouldbe
finalizingtheagreementbeforetheSeptemberissue.Projectsfor
thenextissues?AlainPlouffewillsubmitareportonthe
situationofSTpublications,thosewhoweredraggingtheirfeet
atthebeginningandwhoarenowscramblingfortheirplaceonthe
market.AreviewoftheSTsituationinMontreal,theavailability
ofrecentsoftwareinthestoresaswellastheBBSactivity.We
alsohaveanewcontributorwhohasanotherarticleonC
programming,seingthepopularityofthisprogrammingenvironment.
AfewchangestoourBBSanddozensofnewSTprogramsonthe
market.TheAtariSTisreallyamachinewithabrilliantfuture
aheadofit!

     Iwouldhatemyselfforendingthiseditorialwithout
mentionningtwoparticulareventsthattookplaceinMontreal
duringthemonthofJune.ThefirstwasaSTcomputer
demonstrationorganizedbyüLaPlaceÇ,whereoverê300Çpeoplewere
allowedtotrytheSTandaskquestionstothespecialistson
hand.AnexperiencewhichshouldberepeatedinSeptember.The
secondevenwasthemeetingbythemembersofüFASTERÇofthe
membersofitsBBSwhereover80peoplewereabletoaskquestions
totheüAtariCanadaÇrepresentative,M.üJosephFerrariÇ.Speakingof
theFASTERBBS,over3,000callsand2,400messageswererecorded
inunder3months;arunawaysuccess!
